The Society was formed in 1976 to cater for the growing interest in local history. Meetings are held every month between October and April, when talks are given on subjects of local history interest, as well as those relating to the county of Nottinghamshire. Outings to places of historic interest are arranged during the summer months.

The Society also encourages research into local projects and has published a Local History Trail of West Bridgford, a Bibliography of West Bridgford, ‘Aspects of West Bridgford’s History. In 2007 three members, under the guidance of Dr David Mellor, published Aspects of West Bridgford No 2. More recently member, David Mellor, has been researching the war memorials and created a talk and exhibition on this subject.

The Secretary would be grateful for the opportunity of copying any photographs, documents or other material of local interest which members may obtain.

Membership is open to anyone interested in local history. The annual subscription which is due in January, includes two issues each year of the Nottinghamshire Historian published by the Nottinghamshire Local History Association.

Copies of the rules of the Society may be obtained from the Secretary.

The annual subscription is £7.00 for single membership, and £12.00 for double membership ie two adults at the same address.
